Unidirectional Pressure Sealing Agent

1. Product Overview

Unidirectional Pressure Sealing Agent is a reservoir-friendly temporary plugging additive designed for oil and gas drilling operations. Formulated with composite fibers and inorganic salts, it features a unique "positive pressure sealing, negative pressure flowback" mechanism. Under overbalanced drilling conditions, it forms a tough mat-like barrier to seal fractures and pores, while it is easily removed under negative pressure during production, protecting reservoirs without permanent damage. It is suitable for porous and micro-fractured formations, with excellent high-temperature resistance up to 200°C.

3. Core Functions

3.1 Sealing Formation Seepage & Micro-fractures

Under unidirectional pressure differentials, the agent forms a mat-like barrier to effectively seal porous and micro-fractured formations, reducing mud filtration and preventing fluid loss.

3.2 Improving Filter Cake Quality & Reducing Fluid Loss

It enhances the quality of the mud cake, significantly reducing fluid loss while maintaining stable drilling fluid rheology, thus improving overall drilling efficiency.

3.3 Reservoir Protection with Reversible Sealing

Forms a strong impermeable barrier under positive pressure to prevent formation damage, while readily flowing back under negative pressure during production. It can be easily removed through perforation and backflow without affecting subsequent hydrocarbon production.

3.4 High Compatibility & Thermal Stability

Compatible with various drilling and completion fluid systems of different densities. It is non-disruptive to mud rheology and exhibits excellent thermal stability up to 200°C, suitable for deep and high-temperature wells.

Application Cases of One-way Pressure Sealing Agent for Drilling Fluids

1. One-way Pressure Sealing and Leakage Prevention Case for Fractured Leaky Formations

Case Background: Deep fractured formations and broken tectonic blocks are developed with micro-fractures and pore fractures. Conventional plugging materials have poor adaptability to micro-fractures, low pressure bearing capacity, and are easy to fall off under circulating scouring. Severe drilling fluid leakage and repeated leakage often occur during drilling, resulting in increased mud consumption, prolonged drilling cycle and hidden dangers of wellbore instability.

Application Formula & Dosage: On the basis of conventional water-based drilling fluid system, 1.0%–1.8% one-way pressure sealing agent was added as the core plugging functional material. It cooperates with fine bridging plugging agents to form a high-strength one-way pressure-bearing sealing layer on fracture surfaces.

Application Effect: The product has unique one-way pressure sealing performance. Under positive drilling fluid pressure, it rapidly deforms and fills micro-fractures to form a dense and high-pressure-resistant plugging layer, which effectively blocks drilling fluid leakage and improves formation pressure bearing capacity. Under later negative reservoir pressure, the plugging layer can automatically release and break down without causing permanent blockage of reservoir pores. It thoroughly solves the problem of repeated leakage in fractured formations, stabilizes wellbore quality, and significantly reduces drilling fluid loss and downhole complex risks.

2.  Low-damage Temporary Plugging and Reservoir Protection Case for Low-porosity and Low-permeability Reservoirs

Case Background: Low-porosity and low-permeability tight reservoirs have tiny pore throats and fragile reservoir structures. Conventional plugging agents are prone to residual blockage of pore throats, causing permanent reservoir damage and reduced permeability recovery rate. Long-term retention of solid plugging materials will affect later oil and gas seepage and reservoir stimulation reconstruction, restricting reservoir efficient development.

Application Method & Dosage: 0.8%–1.5% one-way pressure sealing agent was applied in low-permeability reservoir drilling fluid systems. Relying on reversible one-way plugging and automatic plugging removal characteristics, it realizes temporary plugging and low-damage protective drilling.

Application Effect: The product can form a flexible temporary plugging film on the reservoir surface under positive pressure, effectively prevent filtrate and solid phase invasion, and reduce reservoir hydration damage and pore throat blockage. After well completion, the plugging layer automatically falls off under negative pressure, with no residual pollution in the reservoir. The core permeability recovery rate is significantly improved, which perfectly solves the technical contradiction between wellbore plugging and reservoir protection in tight low-permeability reservoirs.

3.  High-pressure Bearing Plugging and System Stabilization Case for Deep High-temperature and High-pressure Formations

Case Background: Deep well high-temperature and high-pressure formations have severe downhole working conditions, large drilling fluid pressure difference, and developed micro-fractures. Conventional plugging materials are prone to high-temperature aging failure and structural damage, resulting in reduced pressure bearing capacity, ineffective plugging and continuous micro-leakage. It is difficult to meet the long-cycle high-pressure stable drilling requirements of deep ultra-deep wells.

Application Dosage: 1.2%–2.0% high-temperature resistant one-way pressure sealing agent was added to high-density high-pressure drilling fluid systems to improve formation pressure bearing performance and high-temperature plugging stability.

Application Effect: The sealing agent has stable high-temperature molecular structure, no thermal degradation or failure after long-term high-temperature aging. It can form a high-strength pressure-bearing sealing layer on fractured wall surfaces under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions, effectively improve formation breakdown pressure, eliminate continuous micro-leakage of high-pressure formations, and maintain stable drilling fluid system performance. It ensures long-term safe and stable drilling of deep high-temperature and high-pressure wells, and greatly reduces the risk of downhole leakage complex accidents.

4. Leakage Prevention and Hole Enlargement Control Case for Shallow Unconsolidated Sandstone Formations

Case Background: Shallow unconsolidated sandstone formations have loose cementation, developed pores and strong permeability. Conventional drilling fluids have large filtration loss and poor sealing performance, which easily cause serious filtrate invasion, formation sand production and wellbore enlargement. The wellbore morphology is irregular, resulting in poor logging quality and increased tripping resistance, affecting the quality and efficiency of shallow rapid drilling.

Application Method & Effect: One-way pressure sealing agent was applied at 1.0%–1.6% in shallow sandstone drilling fluid systems. It can quickly form a dense flexible sealing film on loose sandstone surfaces, effectively plug formation pore channels, reduce filtration loss and prevent filtrate invasion. It inhibits formation hydration and sand production, stabilizes wellbore morphology, controls wellbore enlargement rate, and ensures regular and smooth wellbore for shallow high-quality rapid drilling.

5. Environment-friendly Low-resistance Plugging Case for Offshore High-permeability Formations

Case Background: Offshore high-permeability formations have strong fluid permeability and strict environmental protection and logging requirements. Conventional plugging materials have high fluorescence, poor degradability and large reservoir resistance damage, which interfere with logging interpretation and affect later reservoir development. It cannot meet the requirements of offshore green low-damage drilling and high-precision logging evaluation.

Application Method & Effect: The conventional dosage is 0.9%–1.7%. The one-way pressure sealing agent is non-fluorescent, non-toxic and highly degradable, which is compatible with offshore environmental protection drilling systems. It realizes one-way pressure-bearing plugging under positive pressure and automatic plugging removal under negative pressure, with low reservoir flow resistance damage. It effectively controls formation leakage and wellbore instability, does not affect logging and reservoir evaluation, and fully adapts to offshore high-efficiency green low-damage drilling operations.
